Big & Rich
Heads turned as soon as Big & Rich walked into Johnny Utah’s with our writer Annie Reuter. She brought the country duo to the Midtown Manhattan honky tonk to talk about their new album ‘Gravity’ and, of course, do a little two-steppin’.
Big & Rich decided to switch things up for their fifth studio album Gravity, due for release on Sept. 23. The country duo, made up of Big Kenny and John Rich, will put the album out on their own label, Big & Rich Records, with a partnership with Kobalt Label Services.
When a song gets stuck in your head, it is the lyrics and melody that you remember. But what if those lyrics aren’t really lyrics at all? We’ve picked our favorite country songs that have grunts, “Hyup,” and whistles that can get stuck in your head too.
Big thanks to all our awesome WYCD fans who made the 2014 WYCD Downtown Hoedown one of the best ever! It was a beautiful weekend with great weather, musis and big fun! My personal favorite highlight of the weekend was last night when Big & Rich, along with Cowboy Troy delivered on their promise of a ‘Big Detroit Surprise’ and the onstage Pistons Parade during “Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy” and I captured it all on my new GoPro video camera! Watch the video here!
Nearly everyone on stage took time to pay homage to the musically storied city they were in, whether it was Love And Theft doing a rendition of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” or Drake White proclaiming he loved the “indomitable spirit of Detroit.”
“It’s a hardworking town with a lot of very soulful people, and people we all identify with,” Rich said. “It’s a town that takes a licking and keeps on ticking…I would think country music means something to people here, even more than other towns, because of what it’s talking about and the way it just rallies people together.”
Motley Crue is getting countrified in a brand new album from Big Machine Records. The album features Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band, and more on 15 tracks.
There have been many ‘memorable moments’ from our WYCD Downtown Hoedown’s in years past, but one that sticks out most in my mind was back in I believe 2006 when Big & Rich took the stage and brought out Kid Rock to kick it up even a notch further! John Rich & Big Kenny tell Edwards & Lee that when they return this year on Sunday June 1st, they plan to ‘shred it’ and listen here as they explain how they seriously feed off the ‘special energy’ of their Detroit fans!
Big & Rich are back with a tremendous new single. Listen to “Look At You” and tell us what you think in today’s New Music Spotlight poll.
