It’s almost officially summer, which means it’s time for ice cream and iced coffee. And in a delicious mash-up, Cronut inventor Dominique Ansel decided to combine the two, giving us cold-brew soft-serve.
So where can we get our hands on this caffeinated frozen dessert? Sure, it’s available at Dominique Ansel Kitchen in New York City and the process to make it is pretty involved. Coffee flavor is “infused” into a house made milk-base overnight, then they strain it for another night. Then they mix that with their own cold brew base and let it rest for 12 hours. Still, think about it – if people go bonkers, other people in other places will figure out how to make it there!
“It’s completely different from coffee ice cream: richer when it comes to flavor, without being bitter or sour,” Ansel explains. “It’s a good, clean coffee taste, that’s how I’d describe it.”
If this sounds incredible to you, plan to get yours soon. These $7 cones are only available now through June, but Ansel says if the cold brew ice cream is a hit, he’ll consider bringing it back in September.
