In what can only be called the most incredible upset in American political history, it appears that ‘The Donald’ is now President-Elect Donald Trump. Taking the stage in New York City, Mr. Trump took a fairly conciliatory tone as he accepted his apparent prize, which came courtesy of 278 electoral votes (to Hillary Clinton‘s 218).
Before thanking his supporters and family, Trump took time to not only say that his rival had called him to concede – but also, to shower her with praise. He not only lauded her hard-fought campaign, but also the woman herself for her years of public service. And when he did, his supporters didn’t jeer her – they cheered her. And then he got to the business of “what comes next.”
“Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division…to all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation I say it is time for us to come together as one united people,” he offered. “I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all of Americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.”
Mr. Trump will officially become America’s 45th president at his inauguration in Washington D.C. January 20th. Mrs. Clinton is expected to give a speech of her own this morning.
