Travis Tritt was not exactly happy about Beyoncé performing at the CMA Awards last week. In case you missed it, Travis went off on a Twitter rant about Bey’s performance, arguing that since Bey isn’t a country artist she shouldn’t have performed on the show.
Travis’ rant started with a couple of cracks aimed at Bey’s appearance. “Thanks to everyone who came out to see us in Bowling Green, KY, tonight. Sorry we weren’t able to do any Beyoncé for all the country fans,” he tweeted. Later, he added, “FYI — My band and I are gonna try to work up Beyonce’s “All the Single Ladies” for all you die-hard country fans who love traditional music!”
Travis then continued, asking “when the BET or SoulTrain awards are gonna ask a country artist to perform on their awards show,” pointing out that he just doesn’t understand why the CMAs asked her to perform in the first place. “As I see it, country music has appealed to millions for many years. We can stand on our own and don’t need pop artists on our awards shows,” he explained. “We don’t need pop or rap artists to validate us.”
Travis also insisted his opinion had nothing to do with race, and then ran down the list of African American artists he’s collaborated with in the past.
