Kelsea Ballerini on Playing ‘Stars and Strings’: ‘It’s Important to Be a Part of Things That Matter’

"My grandfathers, on both sides of my family, served in the military , so I'm definitely close to it."

Kelsea Ballerini is one of the country artists who will be playing CBS Radio’s Stars and Strings concert Wednesday Night (November 9) at the Chicago Theatre. The show is a salute to those who currently serve or have previously served in our armed forces, a portion of the concert’s proceeds will benefit Folds of Honor, which provides educational support to spouses and children of America’s fallen and wounded soldiers. There are more than one million dependents adversely affected by military deployments and nearly nine out of 10 do not qualify for federal scholarships.

Ballerini tells that supporting veteran’s causes is something that hits close to home for her: “My grandfathers, on both sides of my family, served in the military , so I’m definitely close to it. I’m so excited to be a part of Stars and Strings. It’s so important to be a part of things that matter. Being able to honor veterans and their families with a bunch of my favorite artists, is going to be a special night.” The show’s lineup also includes Jason Aldean, Big & Rich, Brantley Gilbert, Chase Rice, Dan + Shay, Randy Houser, Rascal Flatts and Tyler Farr.

“I’m dedicating my Stars and Strings performance to everyone that’s there, everyone that’s ever served, and the families of those that served,” she says.

And her message to those who are currently serving: “Thank you for what you’re doing, and I hope my music makes you smile while you’re doing incredible things.”
