This year, Emergency Nurses Day happens on October 12th! Set for the second Wednesday of October, this celebration originated in Australia back in 1989. Now, it’s an international way to honor the hard work and dedication of emergency nurses all around the world.
Why ‘emergency nurses’ as opposed to all nurses? Firstly, “all” nurses have their own day. Nursing as a profession requires a special level of compassion – nurses working in emergency room? Even more. They face numerous difficulties during their working life, yet still return every day to provide crucial care for those who need it the most. At the darkest moments of our lives, these amazing men and women are on the front lines – and doing their best to heal us. So if you know one –bring in a small gift to show him or her that you care about their hard work and dedication. On the unfortunate chance that you end up in the ER, you better thank your nurses after they get you out of whatever jam you got yourself into!
But hey – they always love a snack – and if they work nights, COFFEE – so why not drop off some gift cards to your local coffee or dessert shop at your local emergency room so these awesome men and women can have a special treat?
