Saturday Night Live Season Debut Best In 8 Years

With Alec Baldwin playing Donald Trump and Kate McKinnon asHillary Clinton, “Saturday Night Live’s” 42nd season had its biggest season premiere in eight years. According to live-plus same day viewing figures from the 56 local markets metered by Nielsen, it averaged a strong overnight rating of 5-point-8, and jumped 29 percent from its season opener a year ago. In the coveted 18-49 demographic, it was up 35 percent since last year.

The show opened with a debate spoof that included Hillary crying and saying, “This is going so well.” At one point, McKinnon’s ‘Hil’ made a gesture that indicated that she was giving Donald the rope to hang himself.

Another election-themed sketch included the candidates’ surrogates playing “Family Feud.” It was Team Hillary vs. Team Trump – and it was hilarious. Between the creepy “Children of the Corn” moment with Trump’s kids, a shirtless visit from Vladimir Putin, and Larry David doing a spot-on impression of Bernie Sanders, they explored every giggle possible.

The hostess with the mostest – Margot Robbie – actually proved that she was more than a pretty face. Of course, they played to that strength in the “Live News Report” sketch. She was at the scene of a gaping sinkhole with a man who was aesthetically beneath her. It turned into a story of “How did he get her” as opposed to the sinkhole.

On the flipside, “The Librarian” sketch, Robbie showed a group of teen boys that while she looked gorgeous in their fantasies, in reality she was a hairless wonder who looked like she’d been chewing sugar-infested bricks that rendered her teeth horrid.

Leave it to Kate McKinnon to get Margo to break character during a skit.
