Willie Nelson Posed for Photo with Politician and Can of Weed

By Jon Wiederhorn

Willie Nelson accidentally pulled one over on Democratic Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, when he posed for a picture with the politician backstage in Virginia before a show with a can of Willie’s Reserve marijuana on the table.

Marijuana possession is illegal in Virginia, but not in Colorado or Washington state, where Nelson’s brand of weed is sold.

After McAuliffe posted the photo of the two on Twitter, a spokesman for the governor, Brian Coy, told Billboard that McAuliffe had no idea Willie’s weed was sitting there during his 10 minute meeting with the country star. He added that McAuliffe wouldn’t recognize marijuana “if it walked up and shook his hand.” McAuliffe may be cool, Coy said, “but he’s not that cool.”
