Watch: Michigan Boy with Cerebral Palsy Tries to Stand for National Anthem

A Michigan mother shared a touching video of her 9-year-old with cerebral palsy trying to stand for the national anthem.

Logan, a lover of sports, doesn’t walk without the aid of medical equipment, said his mother, Rebecca Wilson of Chesterfield, Michigan.

On this particular day, while watching a game they recorded on the DVR, Wilson noticed her son attempting to stand for the national anthem.

“He always takes off his hat,” she said, “but until yesterday I never really saw him try to stand. He just knew that is what we do to show respect to our country and everyone who fights so hard for us.”

“He is truly just an amazing kid just doing what he loves.”

This comes amidst controversy in the world of sports as the NFL’s Colin Kaepernick refuses to stand for the national anthem, creating a firestorm of internet comments and spurring both support and derision. Kaepernick has said it’s a form of silent protest against the way African Americans and other minorities have been treated in this country.

On the other side, many feel it’s a sign of disrespect to the flag, and those who have fought and died for American freedom.
