‘Grease’ Creator Responds to Theory that Sandy was Dead the Whole Time

No, Sandy didn’t die while Danny tried saving her and the film isn’t her vivid coma fantasy, according to one of the Grease creators.

That dark fan theory, which stated Sandy was dead the entire time, took off like “Greased Lightning” earlier this week, but Jim Jacobs, who wrote the original book and musical with Warren Casey, is shutting it down.

“Whoever came up with that theory must have been on acid,” Jacobs tells TMZ.

The theory starts with the “Summer Nights” lyrics, “I saved her life she nearly drowned,” and culminates with the (admittedly strange) flying car in the final scene, which some believe signifies Sandy going to heaven.
