While some people may have thought Chris Stapleton was an odd choice to open for Guns N’ Roses in Nashville, Chris certainly seemed to fit right in with the rock and roll crowd. In fact, the opening gig at Nissan Stadium was a dream come true for him.
“When I was a kid, if you’d have told me I’d be up here playing before Guns N’ Roses, I’d have called you a liar,” the singer told the audience this weekend.
Stapleton put on a great performance, with the stadium practically filled for his short 25 minute set. He wowed the crowd with songs from his critically acclaimed debut album Traveller, including “Fire Away,” “Outlaw State of Mind” and “Might As Well Get Stoned.”
Chris got to meet GNR frontman Axl Rose, and says he had “conversations you don’t think you’re ever going to have.” “He was great. Very polite and gracious and we got to say hi for a few minutes,” Chris tells Rolling Stone. “I’m sure he was tired and had to go get cleaned up before the buses or planes rolled out, but he was a gentleman and we had a brief conversation about music and both went on our way. It was a good night.”
