You Can See Star Wars, The Martian And Inside Out At Campus Martius’ Outdoor Theater!


If you are a movie lover, then you need to plan a trip to Downtown Detroit to watch a movie under the stars at Campus Martius! Faygo Movie Night in the D return as a part of the Quicken Loans Summer in the Parks.

Saturday nights, July 16 – August 27 at 8:00 p.m.

July 16: “Creed” – Adonis Johnson Creed (Michael B. Jordan), the son of former heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, attempts to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a boxing legend in his own right. Apollo died in the ring in the 1980s at the hand of Russian pugilist Ivan Drago, forcing Adonis to grow up without his dad in his life. The young man travels to Philadelphia to find his late father’s nemesis-turned-best friend, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), in order to recruit him as a trainer. Balboa soon takes the young Creed under his wing and helps him get in shape for a shot at the title.

July 23: “Searching for Sugar Man” – Winner of both the Academy Award and the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary feature, it is a true story about the gifted singer-songwriter from Detroit, Sixto Rodriguez, whose idol-status fame in South Africa was unknown to him, and his hometown fans.  The film moves between Detroit and Cape Town telling the story of a South African indie record store owner who sets out in search of the artist nicknamed Sugar Man.

July 30: “The Martian” – During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. He must rely on his ingenuity to find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive, and then stay alive until rescue. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, “The Martian” features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

August 6: “Amazing Nina” – Much beloved and often misunderstood, the story of America’s most overlooked musical genius is finally brought to light in “The Amazing Nina Simone.” Director Jeff L. Lieberman (”Re-Emerging: The Jews of Nigeria”) brings audiences on Nina’s journey from the segregated South, through the worlds of classical music, jazz joints & international concert halls. Navigating through the twists & turns of the 1960’s fight for racial equality, the film delves deep into Nina’s artistry and intentions, answering long-held questions behind Nina’s most beloved songs, bold style, controversial statements, and the reason she left America.

August 13: “Inside Out” Presented by United Way for Southeastern Michigan – After young Riley is uprooted from her peaceful Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions – Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), Fear (voice of Bill Hader), Anger (voice of Lewis Black), Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) – conflict on how to best navigate a new city, house and school.

August 20: “The Big Short” – Four denizens in the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse in the mid-2000s and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight. This adaptation of Michael Lewis’ nonfiction book The Big Short stars Christian Bale and Steve Carell with Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Marisa Tomei as co-stars.

August 27: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Featuring Michigan Philharmonic performing Sci-Phonic – The Star Wars saga continues. In this thrilling continuation of the epic space opera — the first under the Walt Disney Co. umbrella. Ex-stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega), scrappy desert dweller Rey (Daisy Ridley), and droid companion BB-8 get caught up in a galactic war when they come across a map containing the whereabouts of the vanished Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). They soon embark on an epic adventure that brings them face-to-face with heroes from the past, as well as new villains.  The film will act as the start of a new trilogy set after the events of Return of the Jedi.
