Titanic is not only one of the highest grossing films of all-time, it’s also hailed as one of Hollywood’s most tragic love stories.
Well, 20 years after its release, Billy Zane is suggesting an alternate ending to the 1997 romance flick – and fans aren’t going to like it.
While visiting the Today show on Tuesday, the actor, who played Cal in the film, suggested Rose (Kate Winslet) should have ended up with his character and not Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio).
Cal, of course, was Rose’s pompous and villainous fiancé, who did everything he could to squash the newfound romance.
“He had Jack arrested and handcuffed to a pipe, attempted to trick Rose into sailing away on a lifeboat without her newfound lover, and chased the couple through the flooding ship with a pistol,” Entertainment Weekly recaps.
Zane explains himself.
“I think he found redemption in the end, and I wish he had found her on [the rescue ship] Carpathiaand was able to right his wrong.”
“He was a little misunderstood,” he said. “I wasn’t the iceberg.”
