Army Soldier And Miss D.C. Wins Miss USA


If anyone can pull off combat boots and a tiara, the new Miss USA can. Miss District of Columbia Deshauna Barber was crowned the 65th Miss USA in Las Vegas. The 26-year-old is the daughter of an Iraq War vet and serves in the Army herself.

The newly-minted Miss USA is a logistics commander for the 988thQuartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade. Born in Georgia and a graduate of Virginia State University, she works as an IT analyst for the Commerce Department. Miss Hawaii was runner-up and Miss Georgia was second runner-up.

As the winner, Barber will now go on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
