No joke! Unfriending a colleague on Facebook can now be considered workplace bullying.
The issue came to light when one women unfriended another after a workplace argument leading to the unfriended woman to become depressed. So she took matters to the company HR department which deemed it a form of ‘bullying’ in the workplace.
While I totally understand and do not in any way condone any form of bullying, I do disagree that having a Facebook ‘friend’ is a choice and un-friending someone in not bullying is any sense of the word. It’s not like a person gets a notification that says: “YOU have been UN-FRIENDED.”
So where do you draw the line as far as being PC in this ever-changing high-tech world we live in. If we cannot freely choose whom we wish to be friends with on our own social networking sites, I think that is totally crossing a line of freedom of choice.
