Old Dominion’s Matt Ramsey Says Children Book Inspired Tattoo

The carrot tattoo that Old Dominion’s Matt Ramsey wears on his right arm represents his favorite children’s book growing up. The ink is inspired by The Carrot Seed, which follows a little boy who plants a carrot and then has everyone tell him it’s not going to grow. The boy keeps watering and weeding anyway until one day a massive carrot pops out of the ground.

Matt believes persistence pays off. “It’s really yourself that tells you it’s not going to happen a lot. And there are other people that will tell you, ‘You’re never going to make it. Get a real job.’ And you start to believe that once you start hitting those low points that you inevitably will hit. And if you just keep watering and weeding, hopefully you’ll get a big carrot. With all the songwriting and our success, we’re getting lots of carrots.”

Life is coming up carrots for Old Dominion this summer. Matt and bandmate Trevor Rosen co-wrote Dierks Bentley’s latest number-one, “Say You Do,” and they co-wrote Kenny Chesney’s new single “Save It for a Rainy Day.” Guitarist Brad Tursi also co-wrote Tyler Farr’s latest number-one, “A Guy Walks Into a Bar.”
