If you saw the Neil Young duet with Stephen Colbert last year, you are aware that the line between serious Neil and joking Neil is narrow. And thus, it isn’t surprising that Rolling Stone assumed he was joking when he suggested that his next album, being recorded with Willie Nelson‘s sons, would be called The Montsano Years, named after the agriculture company. At the time, Young said the album would be “an upbeat review of the situation,” his tongue firmly implanted in cheek.
Well, turns out Neil Young and the sons of Willie Nelson really are releasing an album titled The Montsano Years. Young performed with backing band Promise of the Real at SLO Brewing Company in San Luis Obispo, California on April 16 and revealed 11 new tracks, including those titled “Monsanto Years,” “Rock Starbucks,” “Seeds” and “Too Big to Fail,” according to Rolling Stone.
The new album will be hitting shelves on June 16, and Young and Promise of the Real have tour dates planned in support of the new effort.
