Complete with electric guitars and a prevalent drum beat that, fittingly, makes you want to take a ride in a fast car (or at the very least drive down the highway with the windows down), “Trans Am” shows off Keifer Thompson’s gritty, take-charge vocals with spot-on harmonies from his wife and musical partner Shawna.
“Trans Am” is the first track off the country duo’s upcoming new album, due out this fall. They’ve been working on what will be their third studio album for the past 10 months. It represents a new direction for the award-winning duo, one they say is largely inspired by their live show.
“We’ve tried some new writers and co-writers on this project,” Keifer tells Radio.com, during a recent chat in Nashville. “It’s a very live feeling album. We want this album to reflect our live show. It’s full of tempo. It’s very rocking. It’s just that much fun. We’re just so proud of it. It’s going to be a fun album to play live.”
Keifer says the album makes up some of the best songs the duo has ever written. While their debut album introduced Thompson Square to the country world, their followup Just Feels Good was their life story. Shawna says their third release is all about fun and their live show.
If lead single “Trans Am” is any indication, we better buckle up.
“She’s fast, she’s loud, looks pretty damn good with her top off,” Keifer sings on the opening verse. “I’ll bring the wheels, you bring the heat, see how it feels in the shotgun seat.”
