Kristian Bush pointed out in a new interview with Billboard that he has been a new artist two times previously in his career. He is referring to his start with Billy Pilgrim in the ’90s and his beginnings with Sugarland in 2002. Now, with his first-ever country solo album, Southern Gravity, due out on April 7, Bush is once again starting fresh.
Of course, the difference between now and then is the built in audience, which will surely soften the landing for Bush when he unveils the complete new collection. But also softening the landing is the accessibility of the music, on display in new single “Light Me Up,” which cuts to the chase with a big, sweeping melody and an instantly catchy chorus.
