Country Stars Halloween Memories Include Candy, Costumes, Robbery And Fireworks?

As a kid, Dierks Bentley had a different way of celebrating Halloween. The traditions that he and his friends took part it every year made it seem more like the Fourth of July. Dierks tells us: “Oh, when I was a kid, I was all into fireworks. Growing up in Arizona, we couldn’t get ’em, so we’d have ’em shipped in illegally. I still remember the name of the guy we’d call. His name was Joe, and he’d bring in, ship ’em in a package with no writing on ’em. We were all about M-80s in the mailboxes and bottle rocket wars. To me, as a kid, Halloween was fireworks, was blowing up stuff around home (laughs).”

Growing up, Billy Currington had a favorite go-to costume. “You know, when I was a kid, I loved the trick and the treat. I loved dressing up. I was always wanting to be Dracula. That was my favorite guy. But, of course, who doesn’t love going door-to-door and getting these buckets of candy? [laughs] So, love, love Halloween.”

Note to Luke Bryan‘s neighbors: He’s judging you by the candy you give out on Halloween. “We’re looking forward to trick-or-treating, and doing it in our neighborhood. You can find out a lot about your neighbors by what kind of candy they put out. So, well, like full bars of Snickers bars, that’s what, and Reese’s cups, [but] the old chocolate popcorn ball of stuff, that’s no good either, like Dots – you get Dots one time of year and they pull your teeth.”

Tyler Farr says he probably will be laying off the candy this Halloween. “Times have changed, so I don’t think candy and Tootsie Rolls are quite on the (ahem) artist diet. And I don’t think anybody’s gonna go to Whole Foods to get me some gluten-free anything to put in my bag. So, that would probably be what’s goin’ in my trick-or-treatin’ bag these days.”

Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley is a fan of getting dressed up on Halloween. His most memorable costumes came along just a few years ago as the trio celebrated at a party at Charles’ house. “My biggest Halloween memory was I dressed up as a — this was probably about three or four years ago — I dressed up as a banana. A 6′ 6″ banana, and I got robbed that day. I had just moved into . . . (wife) Kass and I had just moved into this house we were renting and we were having this big ol’ Halloween party and so we went out to Target to get a bunch of decorations and we come back all excited, hands full of stuff and booze (and) our back door was kicked in and bunch of stuff was taken and so I made sure to party that night, party my sorrows away. (Hillary) He did (laughs)! (Charles) I was a pretty loose banana.”
