The 66th Emmy Awards Winners And Highlights


Monday night’s 66th Emmy Awards marked the first time the show had been held on a Monday since 1976. The ceremony was hosted by Seth Meyers who seemed to focus many of his jokes on network TV versus cable and Netflix. The evening’s big winners were Modern Family and Breaking BadModern Family took home awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy series for Ty Burrell and Outstanding Comedy Series for the fifth consecutive year. Breaking Bad nabbed trophies for Outstanding Drama as well as acting awards for Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, and Aaron Paul.

Other big winners included Jim Parsons who took home his fourth Emmy for his role on The Big Bang Theory, Julia Louis-Dreyfus won her third consecutive award as a lead actress on Veep, and Alisson Janney won two trophies — one for her role on Mom and another for guest stint on Masters of Sex. Sherlock scored three wins. Neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Martin Freeman was on hand to grab their awards but writer Steven Moffat was on hand to graciously accept his.

Sara Bareilles performed “Smile” during the In Memoriam before Billy Crystal’s introduced a video montage of the work of the late Robin Williams.

Jimmy Kimmel ragged on Matthew McConaughey for trying to take over the Emmys after winning an Oscar earlier this year.
