Another Sexual Assault: This Time At Local Country Concert

Just a couple of weeks ago in Boston, a woman was assaulted at a Keith Urban concert, and now several news sources are reporting that a 25-year-old woman who was separated from her friends recently at a local country concert was the victim of a sexual assault too…

Police said the rape was reported at 12:10 a.m and allegedly there were three men involved in the attack.

“She was attacked in the dark near the parking area, and there didn’t happen to be anyone around in that parking area. She was taken to a local hospital where they checked for injuries, and a rape kit was done and sent to the Michigan State Police lab to check for DNA,” the local police told MLive.com.

Keith Urban issued the following statement after news reports of the assault that allegedly occurred during his show:

“My team and I were horrified to learn of the events reported in Boston … and our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected. This type of behavior stands in stark contrast to the spirit of our shows.”

I personally am deeply saddened that this happened at a local concert where I was also in attendance. Someone very near and dear to me was the victim of a sexual assault many years ago, and it affected me and the long term affects on the victim never really go away either.

No girl EVER should be horribly violated in that manner, EVER. Regardless of the victims mental state, even if they are intoxicated or dressed in skimpy attire, they are NOT at fault in any way whatsoever.

With that said, I do want to express my deep concern over young girls and even grown women putting themselves in dangerous situations, after partying and drinking at a concert or any large gathering. Just this year alone,  I helped SEVERAL  girls who were obviously intoxicated and ALL ALONE. I helped them to find their friends, or find their way back to their campsite and did NOT LEAVE THEM ALONE.

When I was younger, my girlfriends and I all had a STRICT RULE that we NEVER left a friend who was drinking alone, EVER. Even when they were being obnoxious and wanted to ‘go party with some guy’ they just met, we would not them them go anywhere alone.

We girls had a strict ‘buddy system’ and wherever we went together, we left together. If a friend wanted to ‘hang out with some guy’ after drinking and partying, we would say ‘fine, then have him go to your house after we drop you off safely at home, and he can pick you up there and you can do whatever you want, but you came with us and you are leaving with us, period!’

Bottom line for girls especially, is that friends need to look out for their friends, no matter what. Don’t EVER leave a drunk friend alone because you are ticked off because they are acting stupid or embarrassing you. If they came with you, they need to leave with you too. When they sober up, you can tell them how their actions affected you and your whole group of friends. If they behave like that again, maybe it’s best to not go with them to concerts or wherever.

This is all strictly my opinion and advice to help keep our girlfriends out of potentially dangerous situations.

Love, Linda Lee
