Downtown Hoedown Artists On What Memorial Day Means To Them

Author: Jason the 200 lb. Cowboy

This Memorial Day Weekend we reflect on the men and women who sacrifice for our freedoms. All over the area, parades and memorial services are being held to honor those who served and those who gave their lives to protect our way of life. Downtown Hoedown artists Dierks Bentley and Kellie Pickler share their thoughts with The Dr. Don Show with Rachael and Grunwald about Memorial Day and working with the military.

The grandson of a World War II vet, Dierks Bentley talks about the sacrifices made by the U.S. military. “They’re gone for months and years at a time — they’re doing 12 to 15 to 18 month-deployments — and they have family back home. That, in itself, is such a huge sacrifice, and that’s just the beginning of it. That’s just scratching the surface of what these guys [and gals] are doing everyday.”

Kellie Pickler talks bout her involvement with the USO. “By far the most incredible thing that I’ve been able to be a part of is work wiht the USO. Because what they do is so important. They take a little piece of home to our service men and women overseas and Lord knows they need it.”
