If you’re going to release a video for your debut solo single, it’s wise to make it a memorable one. And Steel Magnolia‘s Joshua Scott Jones did just that with his clip for “Honk (If You’re Tonky).”

As half of Steel Magnolia (with Meghan Linsey), Jones is is best known for the duo’s singles “Keep On Lovin’ You,” “Just By Being You (Halo and Wings)” and “Last Night Again.” For his video debut as a solo artist, though, he took a cue from Beyoncé‘s “Single Ladies.” His “Honky (If You’re Tonky)” video is a mostly black-and-white clip is built around two women dancing in the shadows (watch it below).

“I wanted to make a dance video, but a honky tonk style video, so we shot half of it in black and white, and the other half in color,” Jones told Billboard. “It was me, and two dancers. One was my girlfriend. They choreographed it. They brought the vision to life. It’s edgy, cool, and upbeat. I think it’s something people won’t want to take their eyes off of.”

Jones has been working on his own solo material since he and Linsey parted ways last year as a band and as a couple (they had been together five years and engaged).
