Henry Cavill, Superman, Spotted Around Detroit

Hollywood is once again returning to Detroit in 2014. The ‘Man of Steel’ sequel will be filming in and around the Motor City this spring/summer. The film, starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, has been approved for Michigan film incentives and the Detroit Free Press anticipates it spending $131 million here.

While filming hasn’t officially begun yet, the stars are already in town. Henry Cavill, Superman, helped volunteer at Motor City Crossfit on Sunday, February 9th for the 2014 Michigan Barbell Classic.

According to Roman Fernandez, who snapped the Instagram photo, said “Henry’s personal trainer from Salt Lake City was competing at the event – the 2014 Michigan Barbell Classic. And every athlete is allowed to bring a friend/coach/ training partner to help with spotting and setting up. Henry was his spotter.” Fernandez added that when he spoke to them, they said “they will be in Michigan for a while, at least 6 months.”

The director of the film, Zack Snyder, has also been spotted around town. Last month, he made a stop at Michigan State University’s Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. MSU Athletic Director Mark Hollis posted a photo of himself, Snyder and basketball coach Tom Izzo at the museum.

It is not just the stars of the movie who are coming to Detroit. Their families will be here too. Ben Affleck’s wife, Jennifer Garner, is making the move this summer to the mitten. “I’ll be there this summer, all summer,” Garner said, according to MLive. “My husband Ben is filming … ‘Batman’ is shooting … or whatever it’s called. I don’t know what it’s called. ‘Superman With Batman,’ or whatever it is. But he is shooting this summer, so we’ll be there.”

While details for the movie are scarce and mostly speculation at this point, we do know that the movie will hit theaters on May 6, 2016. Anticipation has been building for the film since Zach Synder teased the sequel at San Diego Comic Con 2013, with a single image. You can relive the announcement below:
