Darius Rucker picked up his third career GRAMMY but first as a solo act in Country music at the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday. Since making the leap to Country, Darius has scored hits and sold more than a million albums, but he says with this new Grammy in hand for Best Country Solo Performance for “Wagon Wheel” he feels like he’s a legitimate part of Country music.
He told reporters backstage at the Grammys, “I think they took me seriously, but Doc McGhee’s my manager, and we were riding over when we heard that I won. Like he said, a Grammy’s a game-changer. You know, when you win a Grammy you take . . . that’s two steps up in whatever genre of music you’re in so I think they’ll take me a little more seriously now.”
