Gary Allan Says Taylor Swift & Carrie Underwood Are NOT Country!

Gary Allan is trying to explain the comments he made about Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift in an interview he did with Larry King last week. The interview aired last night (Tuesday, September 17th), but it was the 90-second preview that began airing on Friday (September 13th) that had folks talking. When asked whether or not Carrie and Taylor are country, Gary said, “I would say they’re pop artists making a living in the country genre.”

That comment ruffled some feathers, so Gary took to Facebook to further explain himself. He wrote, “Country music has changed. During the interview I made it a point to say that my own music has changed over the years. I used to make very different music 10 – 15 years ago. . . country music is a blend these days. Our genre has enough room in it for me, a country artist whose country leans towards rock and for more pop sounding country artists, as well as more traditional sounding country artists. None of us are the same, but we all make country radio our home.”

Larry also asked Gary if today’s country music genre would be accepting of a gay entertainer, to which he admitted to knowing about a few gay singers who are still in the closet.
