Florida Georgia Line keep topping themselves! The duo has now set the all-time record for the most weeks at Number One on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart, as their mega-hit “Cruise” holds the top spot for 22 weeks! They have surpassed the previous 69-year chart records held by Hank Snow, Webb Pierce and Eddy Arnold, who each held that coveted top spot for 21 weeks.
Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard‘s unique blend of all their musical influences, particularly rap and country, has earned them a place of distinction in country music. Brian tells The Dr. Don Show with Rachael and Grunwald, “I think there’s a place for it. I still listen to Alabama and I love Waylon Jennings and we love it all, to be honest with you. We love all genres of music so I don’t know what you would call our music. I definitely think it clearly fits somewhere in there and I don’t even know, man. We just wanted to do something fresh and something that – I heard this quote a long time ago and it’s, ‘If you try to write a Craig Wiseman song, he’s gonna beat you every time. So, write your own song.’ So we just try to find our own niche.”
“Cruise” has sold 5.4 million downloads to date, becoming the third-best-selling country digital track ever, according to SoundScan. The song spent five non-consecutive weeks at Number One on the Hot Country Songs chart in December and January. Following the release of the Nelly re-mix, “Cruise” returned to Number One dating back to April 20th.
Florida Georgia Line will perform “Cruise” on the Teen Choice Awards, which will air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, August 11th at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
