Have you ever noticed that when you think about something for too long, it’s hard for you to figure out what to do? A new study shows that when you are having trouble making a decision, there are a few tricks you can do to help you out. Get ready to make the best life decisions ever!
According to NBC News, if you are having trouble deciding on something, distracting yourself can actually help! A study at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh found that if you distract yourself for just TWO minutes before you decide on something, you’ll pick the smarter option. You just need a distracting activity that totally engages your mind, and lasts two minutes. Like listening to an early BEATLES song, playing a turn on “Words With Friends”, or go eat an ice cream sandwich.
The researchers say the two-minute break helps because your conscious mind gets stuck on little details. But your UNconscious mind sees the bigger picture. And even when you distract your conscious mind, your unconscious mind keeps working. So when you get back to making the decision, the smarter pick should be more clear.
