Should an Indiana couple go to jail for saving a deer? That’s the question surrounding the case of Jeff and Jennifer Counceller, who rescued an injured fawn and nursed it back to health at their Connersville, Indiana home. I am a huge animal lover and I think this is outrageous! The couple now faces the possibility of jail time of 60 days and fines up to $2,000 after state officials charged them with a misdemeanor for harboring the animal.
Jeff and Jennifer found the dying fawn in their yard and did what any animal lover would do, they did their best to nurse it back to health. Jeff said he had no idea that keeping the baby deer in order to help it was even against the law.
Is it just me, or is this the craziest thing you ever heard? Do the police in that town not have more pressing issues to attend to, or at the very least, it seems that should have taken the circumstances into account before pressing charges against a couple who were just trying to save the animals life? I understand laws against keeping wild animals, and I agree with them too. Wild animals should not be kept as pets, and this was not the case here either!
Should they have to go to jail?
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to help an animal?
