A Michigan family is up in arms over a situation involving their loving dog, Mina. Mina has served three tours of duty as a bomb dog in Afghanistan, and with a major lung issue, they had to put him down. They are currently trying to plan where they will bury Mina, and as of right now, it won’t be in the Military cemetery they are hoping.
Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan is where many military men and women have been laid to rest. This cemetery is the only place June Etlinger had in mind when thinking of where she will bury her beloved Mina. Mina served three tours of duty with June’s son, Army Sgt. Corey McCourt. And even though Corey still can serve, Mina’s health was so bad they had to put him down. The sad part of the story is that the cemetery has said no!
Even though Mina was promoted to sergeant before leaving the Army, the cemetery isn’t making any kind of exceptions. “My father is buried there and my grandmother and grandfather are buried there. It’s a beautiful cemetery and it’s an honorable cemetery, and I just feel that Mina deserves that as well,” Etlinger said.
