Why does there seem to be one ‘honey who do’ the chores around the house and one ‘honey who don’t’ do nearly as much? Nearly two-thirds of couples admit to arguing over chores at least once a week. And one in five people know a couple who fight regularly or have broken up over the issue. With most households these days having both husband and wife working outside the home, it is more than fair that the household chores should be divided as equally as possible. When it comes to the most common cause of arguments, most of us say money! This is probably the most important issue that couples need to work out BEFORE you start ‘commingling’ your finances together with your partner. In most relationships, there is one person who is just better at money management, paying the bills and saving for emergencies and the future. Giving up control of your money, if you are not the ‘one better at it’ is hard to do, but makes things a whole lot easier in the long run!
Coming in as the second biggest reason couples argue is the division of chores! Nearly one in five couples admit that they battle with their partner on a regular basis trying to decide who cooks, and who does the cleaning up and tidies things away after meals.
