What happened to this serious ‘leverage’ tool that parents have used for centuries? We all still tell the little ones that, “you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout , I’m telling you why, Santa Claus is coming, to town!” I took that pretty serious when I was a kid! But these days, kids know better! They must have figured out that although ‘Santa’s making a list and checking it twice,‘ he’s still likely to give kids the same presents whether they’re naughty or nice. How many parents do you think will still spoil the ‘naughty kid‘ on their shopping list?
Nearly 80% of parents say their kids will get the same number of toys for Christmas, even if they get on Santa’s “naughty” list. That’s according to a Walmart national holiday survey of parents and kids. At risk is the most effective and traditional leverage that parents have had over their kids at holiday time for decades. Behave well or pay in lost presents!
Only 62% of kids still think they’ll get more toys if they stay on Santa’s “nice” list.
I guess it’s just a different world…because there are lots of totally spoiled little brats who get EVERYTHING they want, even if they flip out and throw a tantrum! Sure did not work that way when I was a kid.
Is it just me, or did kids seem to be a little better behaved ‘back in the day’ when we were little?
