Trace Adkins ruffled some feathers when he performed on NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center tree-lighting special on television this week! The monitor that Trace wore in his right ear during his live performance Wednesday night had a confederate flag on it.
Twitter immediately lit up with tweets criticizing Adkins for wearing the symbol, which many associate with oppression and slavery. Trace Adkins defended himself, releasing this statement on his website:”As a proud American, I object to oppression of any kind. To me, the battle flag represents remembrance of my Southern lineage—I am a descendant of Confederate soldiers who followed that flag into battle.
Trace continues saying, “I advocate for the preservation of America’s battlefields and honest conversation about our Country’s history. To those who view the flag as a symbol of racism, that was not my message and I did not intend offense.”
