Things are completely different today, than they were just 15 years ago in the WYCD office and studios too! When I first started working in radio, we taped all of our phone calls on a ‘reel to reel’ tape recorder, and all editing was done with a ‘blade and splicing tape!” All the music and commercials were all played on these little ‘thing-a-ma-‘jiggies’ called ‘carts’ that resembled an 8-track tape. But that was ‘then’ and this is now! All our music and commercials are all on computers! And just like our office, you may not have to put up with the office fax machine for much longer. It’s on the verge of extinction, according to LinkedIn’s “Office Endangered Species” survey. Other common office items on the verge of extinction are….
Other items headed for the dustbin include tape recorders, desk phones, business cards and corner offices.
With technology changing as fast as the seasons in the year, I can only imagine what our office will look like 10 years from now!
I remember watching “The Jetson’s” and thinking back then that we would all have ‘flying cars’ in the future too! I can live without a flying car, but I am still waiting for my kitchen to look like Jane Jetson’s did, where dinners cooked themselves, and dishes flew into a dishwasher and washed themselves too!! LOL!
What office item do you think is endangered and why?
