School Forces Students To Take Pregnancy Tests

Teenage pregnancy must be getting out of hand at Delhi Charter School in Louisiana because a new policy requires students who are suspected of expecting, undergo a pregnancy test with a physician of the school’s choosing. If the student fails or refuses, she’ll have to continue her studies at home or somewhere else. The American Civil Liberties Union has written to the school asking the policy be tossed, because it violates federal law and the Constitution’s education amendments.

It looks like the school is trying to cut down on its teenage pregnancies by letting students know if they do get pregnant, they won’t be able to attend the school anymore. It seems like it may be affective, but is it right? “They’re punishing girls for making the choice to have the child,” Marjorie Esman, executive director of the ACLU of Louisiana said Monday.

Do you think this is a good policy for preventing teenage pregnancy or is it just punishing the ones who are getting pregnant? Leave a comment below or call 313-298-1999.
