In today’s casual office environment, where people wear shorts and flip-flops to work and are encouraged to bond with each other, it can be hard to know whether to hug or not to hug someone at work. Most office etiquette experts say that generally an arms-off policy is best. And yet, most admit that they too have been in a situation where they’ve either given, or received, an awkward co-worker hug. Do you feel totally uncomfortable when someone hugs you at work? Let me tell you about Jack Shell and the hug he HATED….
Jack Shell is our new midday jock and a super nice guy! I have had Jack and his beautiful wife Karen over my house, and my husband and I enjoy hanging out with them both at WYCD station events. And I am a ‘hugger’ by nature. So one day, cannot even remember why, but I gave Jack a casual hug and the look on his face was PRICELESS! He said “I cannot believe that you just hugged me….being hugged creeps me out!” At the time I thought it was pretty funny and I made jokes and references about it ever since! Like “If you’re not nice to me, I WILL HUG YOU!”….like a threat of sorts! But it made me realize that I sure don;t want to make ANYONE feel uncomfortable, so I make a point to not hug Jack anymore!
