From Edwards & Lee, Weekdays 3 PM – 7 PM

Major League Baseball is currently on a break they call the All-Star break.  Starting this past weekend, festivities that surround the best of the best in the MLB kicked off with fan day, and last night was the Home Run Derby!  8 players, battled to see who could hit the most home runs!  Prince Fielder represented the Tigers last night.  And Prince became the first Detroit Tiger EVER to win the home run crown!  But this isn’t anything new to him!

Tonight, Prince will be the first Detroit Tiger since his dad, Cecil Fielder, to start at first base in the All-Star game.  But last night, Prince was able to have some fun and get the game off of his mind!  He participated in the Home Run Derby, and beat out 7 other men to win the crown!  He beat Toronto’s Jose Bautista to win.  Now, this is the 2nd time Prince has won the derby, winning it in 2009 with the Brewers.  Prince also becomes the 2nd person EVER to win the derby more than once.  And he is also the first player ever to win the derby as an American League player and a National League player!

While some people might think that the home run contest weighed in a lot on Prince’s mindset, but he denies that.  He says here is just there to have fun!

“Oh, it’s fun,” he said, “and when these guys are out there, they are having a blast. And especially when you have kids, when you see your kids having a good time and seeing how much they enjoy it, you have a good time, as well. I’m just happy that I’m healthy and able to be here and happy that they like it, too.”
