Women like Jessica Simpson (and ME!) who think that pregnancy gives them license to eat whatever they want may have to close the snack cupboard. Doctors have been promoting the ‘eating for two‘ philosophy for years but in the case of obese expectant mothers especially, experts are now advocating for little to no weight gain. Wish I heard this 25 years ago….
Healthy women are advised to gain between 25 and 35 lbs during pregnancy but those who are overweight are now being offered nutritional coaching to only avoid putting on extra baby pounds.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in five pregnant women are obese.
I gained about 45 pounds, all due to the fact that I really thought I could ‘eat for two’ and the weight would just ‘fall off’ when i had the baby! WRONG!! Took me YEARS to lose all that weight!
