Times have changed and fewer and fewer people are catching television programs at their air time. In 2012, 36% more people watched TV on their smartphones than in 2011 and Netflix, Hulu, DVR, and streaming services let us mold TV schedules into our own lives. People like me hardly ever watch TV in ‘real time’ now, almost everything we watch is off of our DVR! So when you watch the season premiere of your favorite show, and post something about the show on Facebook, it’s now the ‘digital etiquette’ to start your post with “Spoiler Alert”….so you don’t ruin the surprise for others….
You cannot assume, just because you’ve seen something, that everyone else has so if you simply must say something on Facebook, give a fair warning by simply putting “SPOILER ALERT” at the beginning of the write-up.
I still say that Facebook is NOT the place to air your ‘dirty laundry’ or bad mouth a former friend or family member. Trust me on this…..most people really don’t wanna read your public rantings wither!
What digital etiquette practice would you like your friends to practice?
