It’s less than a week until the new album from the Zac Brown Band, Uncaged, hits stores. The summer-friendly, bluegrass-fueled single “The Wind” is already out there, and this week, the band unveiled a new animated video for the song.
The director behind the video is Mike Judge, and if you’ve ever seen Beavis & Butthead or King of the Hill you’ll recognize his animation style immediately. Judge is also the filmmaker behind such sharp-edged comedies as Extract, the underrated Idiocracy, and the mighty behemoth of in-joke, white-collar humor that is Office Space.
So, yes, the video is funny.
The Judge/ZBB creation almost more of a short film than your typical ‘music video.’ In fact, there’s not much typical about this video at all. It starts out at a music festival with the ZBB on stage playing “The Wind,” which is cool enough in its own right. But then it jumps to a subplot set “somewhere in the Georgia swamp” where, after a four-wheeler accident that (of course?) involves guns, beer, and a hillbilly still, a damaged Zac is repaired and rebuilt, Steve Austin-style, as a super-powered “Robo Redneck.”
And speaking of Uncaged, the album hits stores on Tuesday, July 10, and you can preview the album right now on iTunes.
