It was the first of the year when we got word that famed Food Network cook, Paula Deen, had been diagnosed with diabetes. She admitted that many things lead to this including the very butter filled recipes she had on her show! Now, we might have heard this from her at the first of the year, but she knew much longer about the diabetes than she lead on. Paula wanted to let everyone know when she felt more comfortable about it. Well, she is looking pretty comfortable on the cover of People Magazine! She has dropped 30 lbs and is looking FANTASTIC!
According to Yahoo, Paula knew about the diagnosis of diabetes for three years before she felt comfortable to announce it. When she did, a lot of people criticized her for eating herself into being a diabetic and she was teaching other people these bad habits. All she knows is that while it has been hard, she has never asked for this.
“I was surprised by the depth of hate,” Deen, 65, said about the backlash to People. “This is not something I chose. I had been given lemons and I had to try to make lemonade — without sugar!”
I have been trying hard as well to lose weight and eat better, and just like Paula knows, it’s not easy. Paula opened up to People magazine to talk about how it has been hard, but a great change of pace to what she was used to. And while it was hard, she has found it easier than she expected, which isn’t saying much!
“I double up on greens — whether it’s salad or vegetables — and my carbs are just a spoonful.” Her shopping cart is now overflowing with broccoli, sweet potatoes, and fruit instead of regular potatoes (her weakness) and bread. Where she used to skip breakfast, she now has a smoothie. And a typical dessert for Deen is “a bowl of sugar-free ice cream with strawberries and blueberries on top.”
