Tennessee says that hand-holding is a gateway activity for teenage sexual activity.  While that sounds a bit crazy, a ton of people agree!  Tennessee has even passed a bill that makes any of this “gateway to sexual activity” for teens, illegal!  So while they are joking about the hand-holding, they really didn’t even discuss what it DOES cover.  So not only are people upset that they didn’t discuss what it REALLY covered, but they are upset that it got passed even though there was no discussion.  What do you think?

According to Yahoo, this bill was passed in Tennessee about a month ago, and people are up in arms because not only did it get passed, but no one really knows what it covers.  It all stemmed from sex education classes that went a bit too far, then they wanted to have abstinence education classes.  And, their teen pregnancy percentage is one of the highest in the country!

“What we know … from the research is that comprehensive sex education works. It delays sexual activity, it reduces the number of partners teens have, and it increases contraceptive use. There is very little in the way of any rigorous research that shows that abstinence education has any of these long-term benefits.”

“I think that is unique in that rather than this legislation just saying there needs to be an emphasis on abstinence education, it also prohibits too explicit sex education from being either put in schools under the guise of abstinence education, or in opposition to an abstinence education program,” she said.

But there are so many parents out there that just don’t have “the talk” with their kids, and it has their kids get in more trouble because they decide that having sex is no big deal.  I agree there needs to be some middle ground, but I find it pretty crazy that they refuse to allow ANY eduction for teens on sex.  What do you think?
