Fans Sing ‘Happy Birthday’ To Chris Young – ‘That’s A First For Me’

Chris Young turned 27 years old today. And during his performance in Detroit this past weekend, he got a nice gift from his fans. Smack in the middle of his set Sunday afternoon at the annual Downtown Hoedown, the audience sang him a rousing version of “Happy Birthday.”

He stood, grinning wide, on the stage, while female and male fans alike belted out the song. “That’s a first for me,” he said afterwards, clearly flattered.

After that, he launched into a lively cover of the Motown classic “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours,” which seemed an appropriate choice–not only regarding his birthday, but the town (Detroit was the original home of Motown Records).

As for what his plans are to spend his birthday? “I’m not doing anything, at all,” he told CBS Detroit station WYCD, in an interview backstage at the Downtown Hoedown. Well, OK, maybe a little something. “I’ve got a brand new little niece, I’ll probably go hang out with my sister and my niece.”

Chris Young put on a fantastic performance at the Hoedown Sunday in Detroit, as well as the previous night in Chicago, where he was one of several opening acts for Brad Paisley.
