I’ll admit that when I first heard the news of Brooks & Dunn’s break up almost a year ago I was a little surprised and a bit bummed out. For over 20 years the duo made outstanding country music together. Although it was tough news to hear, they had their reasons and I respect that. As Kix Brooks told People Magazine, “It’s too good a horse to ride it into the ground. “We’re still good friends. I’m proud to say we’ve never had a fight, never even yelled at each other. And that’s the truth.”
Now almost a year later Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have ventured into their respective solo careers with much success. I have to say I’m happy for the both of them and it seems they made the right choice, but some people are still being affected by the split including famous author, Maya Angelou. It turns out Maya is a big country music fan and she told Parade magazine, “I’ve been seriously affected by the breakup of Brooks & Dunn. They broke up after 20 years and I’ve been seriously offended by that!”
Well Maya, even if you are upset about the break up I don’t think “offended” is the correct word to use in this situation. You have to respect their own individual decisions and although we may miss Brooks & Dunn together we can’t take offense to someone’s personal decisions.
