You may never swim in a public pool again. A new study revealed our worst fears are true: People do indeed still pee in pools. Not only that, but they are littering the water with all kinds of other nasty germs. Here’s what you need to know. A recent survey conducted by the Water Quality and Health Council found one in five Americans confessed to using a public pool as a public bathroom…in other words, they are too lazy to get out and use the toilet. Before you jump in that public pool…..guess what else is in the water?
In addition to urinating in the pool, seven in 10 admitted to skipping a shower before jumping in the water, which may not sound like a big deal, until you understand what’s going in the water with them.
We had a sign on our backyard pool that read: “We don’t swim in your toilet, so please don’t pee in our pool!” But thinking back of all the kids that swam in our pool every day, I am willing to bet that no everyone complied with our humorously put request! I live o a lake now, and when some of my friends tell me that they don’t like swimming in a lake, ‘because fish pee in there’…I will have to remind them that a public pool is probably far worse than our lake!
I remember thinking when I was a kid that there was some chemical that public pools used that would turn the water a dark and noticeable color if someone urinated in there. Is there really such a thing?
