Jake Owen was enjoying Cinco de Mayo, like a lot of us…partying on Saturday and it almost got him busted. It’s a bizarre story and some of the details are unclear . . . but here’s what we know.
Sometime around 8:30 P.M. a sheriff’s deputy saw a man . . . whom we now know was Jake . . . wearing an “old man mask” and dancing outside the window of a Steak ‘n Shake in Vero Beach, Florida, which is Jake’s hometown.
For some reason, the deputy decided to check it out. We don’t know what happened next . . . but it ended up with Jake in handcuffs.
Someone took a photo that Jake Tweeted a little later. He wrote, quote, “I just got arrested in my own hometown.”
But Jake was NOT arrested. Some people came out of the Steak ‘n Shake to tell the deputy that the “whole thing was a joke” . . . so the cuffs came off. That could have been the end of the story…
He started chatting about it on Twitter. He wrote, quote, “I was wearing an old man mask and the sheriff decided to rip me out of Steak ‘n Shake and embarrass me in front of my family. Classic.”
He followed that up with, quote, “You give a guy a gun and a badge and he thinks he’s JOHN WAYNE. Thanks, Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Unreal.”
Well, after Jake calmed down he reread his Tweets and deleted them. But by that time, they’d already gone viral. And on Sunday morning he issued an apology. Hey, we’ve all had our moments…
Not some puppet that is reciting what he "should" say. I take full responsibility. Again, what's done is done, but I am truly sorry.—

The Sheriffs were doing their jobs and I made an immature decision to announce it to the world. This is me talking.—

Y'all I apologize. The IRC Sheriff was doing their job. I love hometown. I had too good of a time on Cinco de Mayo.—

…Hey we ALL have had our moments where we were upset about something and used social media to express those frustrations. The only difference in Jake’s situation is that he is famous, and everyone will hear about it. Jake DID issue an apology and honestly, he is just an awesome guy who was having an awesome time on Cinco de Mayo.
…There…now you know what’s up and NO…Jake was NOT arrested!
