Rascal Flatts Plans To Downsize
There is never a dull moment when Gary, Jay and Joe Don of Rascal Flatts step in front of the mic. And this exclusive interview from the ACM Awards in Las Vegas was no exception!
“The economy has got a lot of people down, and everyone’s cutting back. So is it true, Gary, that you’re thinking of cutting Joe Don out of the group?”
“We are going to downsize, we figure that we save a lot of money by cutting out guitars,” explained Gary.
“We’re actually not going to have lead vocals on the record, either,” said Jay.
What it’s really going to be is all instrumental,” said Joe Don, “and the crowd sings all the songs. A big karaoke concert.”
“So do you just act it out [from the stage]?”
“Oh we’re not even there.”
One thing is clear, though: as big as both their voices and their sense of humor, the same holds true for their generosity. The trio recently gave country music belle and tour mate Sara Evans a brand new vehicle.
During the interview, Jay explained the gesture, stating that “we just wanted to show our appreciation. She was on the road with us for almost two years, she had the patience to come out and sing ‘Easy’ with us in the middle of our show every night, and it was just our way to say ‘thank you’ for being such a great touring partner.”
Oh, and that downsizing business. Were they joking or for real? Do desperate times really call for desperate measures? Watch the interview to find out.
