We’ve all heard the saying, “live every day as if it were your last”….but do we really do that? Have you always wanted to ‘go sky-diving?’ I know lots of people who plan to ‘live their dreams‘ once the kids are out of school, after they retire, after they pay off the house and so on, and so on! But when ‘heaven is calling‘ and people know that the end is near, a lot of people have regrets for waiting to do the things they wanted to, and the realization that now there may not be time to do it all. A hospice nurse who has counseled the dying in their last days has revealed the most common regrets we have at the end of our lives. Do you think you would have any regrets?
Among the top, from men in particular, is ‘I wish I hadn’t worked so hard’.
Here are the top five regrets of the dying:
1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
What’s your greatest regret so far, and what will you set out to achieve or change before you die?
