Top 5 Apps You Must Have

For people that know me, they know that I am a freak about my Droid and I love apps! From popular apps like Words with Friends (which you can play me by just looking me up through Facebook), Angry Birds, Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, to apps that some people think are dumb (but ones I also love) like Lighter, iBeer, Tune Me and Voxer, there are millions and millions of apps on iPhone and Android platforms. Brad Simpson from our friends at Yahoo came out with a list of the Top 5 apps to have and I thought I’d share some of the sweet new apps with you.

Before I get into the Top 5, I’d like to add a 1a to the list. Radio.com has the only app where you can listen to your favorite CBS radio station (Like 99.5 WYCD) anywhere in the country! I know that a bunch of my friends that moved to other states love the fact that they can still listen to Detroit radio and have a piece of home with them even if they are hundreds or thousands miles away! Now, onto the list!

Have you ever been in the car or at a bar and thought to yourself, “What is the name of this song?” Then you need Shazam. The free music discovery app identifies the song you are listening to and then publishes background information of that track along with an opportunity to add it to your library.

The next generation of social networking is playing out on mobile devices (rather than on our desktop and laptop computers). Available for iPhones and Android smartphones, Path is a beautifully designed digital journal that tracks where you go, who you are with and what music you are listening to. There is even a feature in the app that documents when you go to sleep and when you arise.

Just because the NBA season was abbreviated due to an owners’ lockout  and the Piston’s aren’t exactly tearing it up, doesn’t mean the league’s official mobile app, NBA Game Time 2011-2012, for iPhones and Android devices is anything short of a slam dunk. You can watch video previews of your favorite teams and get alerts just as their games are about to tip off.

Wordsmiths and casual fans of games like Scrabble and Words With Friends alike will enjoy digging into this next-generation dictionary. The Wolfram Words Reference app can help you uncover basically anything found within the English language. But to me, this is basically cheating.

If you’re like me and not able to stay up late enough to watch Late Night with Jimmy Fallon these days, you can still be woken up by the popular comedian. Jimmy Fallon’s Wake Up Call comes equipped with 10 customized ringtones for the alarm and 17 different pre-recorded messages from Fallon.

So these are the Top 5 apps you should have. For more info on the apps, go to Yahoo to check out more.
